In Brief...
I've been working in web design now for 7 years as both a freelancer and working within
companies full & part time. My experience and skills is not limited to just web
design though, from an early age i've been very active within the arts - fine art, music,
video & photography, and graphic/digital art & design.
Early studies...
As well as art & design my work and studies has led me into Psychology and Travel &
Tourism, both of which have played a part in influencing my art work and my direction in career.
After studying art & design at a-level, I then went onto studying Fine Art at De Montfort University
that begun with studying and practicing drawing & painting, graduating with a 2.1 after developing
my video & photography skills and creating a final video for my final project and Degree Show.
Starting out in Web Design...
During these 6 years a growing interest in technology and new media led me into teaching myself web design and html.
This led me into doing some freelance work for people I knew and later on I found myself in two seperate
(part time) commercial positions. The first was as a Web Administrator for M&A Trading, the second being a Web Project
Manager for Handling Innovations Ltd.
My prospects...
My progress in these areas has led me into teaching too, something I really enjoy and feel can do quite successfully, teaching for
me so far though has only been in voluntry positions. Volunteering I would say is part of daily life, like your hobbies, I really enjoy this
and it can be very rewarding too. Teaching is a direction I am always looking to develop and progress in as hopefully in the near future I
will find myself within a teaching position, teaching web design, while continuing practicing in this profession.
Where I am now...
Currently I am working full time for a web design company based in Chesterfield as a web designer developing my skills and knowledge
in web/graphic design, xhtml and css, also Javascript and recently I've been learning PHP.
My main skills lie in designing and building websites/templates in xhtml and css, and also Javascript; learning, practicing and preaching w3c validity,
accessibility, browsers compatibility and also SEO, along with Flash & video.
